The newest member of the Hilton Hotel chain, the Hilton Batumi Hotel in Batumi, Georgia, has opened just in time for the all-important Autumn tourist season. PENETRON technology ensured that all below-ground structures and pools remained dry, despite the high groundwater.
With 247 rooms stacked in two angular 22-floor towers, the new Hilton Batumi Hotel features an expansive conference/event facility, restaurants, casino, rooftop bar, fitness spa, indoor swimming pool, and underground parking garage. The structure is located directly on the coast of the Black Sea on Batumi Seaside Boulevard, adjacent to the resort’s historical town center.
“The hotel has a great location – only 50 meters (164 feet) from the seashore and a small pond on the other side. The construction site dug eight meters (26 feet) into the ground, so ground water was an issue,” says Tamazi Chikhladze, Director of PENETRON Georgia. “That’s why the project manager at Mace, the global construction firm, specified PENETRON technology for comprehensive protection against moisture.”
The profusion of underground water at the job site led Anagy, the local contractor, to treat all below-ground concrete structures with PENETRON ADMIX, including the concrete used for over 1,100 m3 (1,440 cubic yards) of basement walls. PENETRON, a surface-applied, integral crystalline waterproofing material, was used to treat the basement slab (90 m2/970 square feet), 8,243 m2 (88,727 square feet) of basement walls and in eight elevator shafts. PENECRETE MORTAR and PENEBAR SW waterstop were used on more than 900 m (2,950 feet) of construction joints.
“Hydroinsulation Technologies, our local PENETRON distributor in Georgia, has enjoyed great success with PENETRON crystalline technology at both seaside and mountaintop projects in this part of the world,” explains Rob Revera, President and CEO of The PENETRON Group. “The local PENETRON team and the customer are both very pleased with the results!”
