Opening just in time for the late winter and spring season in Greece, the luxurious Blue Lagoon Princess Hotel chose PENETRON crystalline technology to keep the complex dry and resistant to incursion of saltwater.
A village style 238-unit luxury complex, the Blue Lagoon Princess Hotel is located on Kalives Beach in the Halkidiki region / Gulf of Toroni in Northern Greece. The hotel features several swimming pools, a spa with an indoor pool, and three restaurants and bars.
The reinforced concrete structures needed an absolutely waterproof solution for protection from corrosion due to chloride penetration and also resistance to concrete carbonation from. Project engineers and the Douros Construction Company consulted with the specialists at PENETRON Hellas. PENETRON ADMIX was specified to treat all below-ground and exposed concrete structures in a “white tank” solution, which creates an integrated, durable concrete structure that is permanently waterproof.
This innovative solution takes advantage of the PENETRON crystalline waterproofing technology, which reduces permeability by permanently sealing micro-cracks, pores and capillaries. This effectively protects the concrete against water penetration and corrosion from chloride penetration and carbonation, even under the hydrostatic pressure conditions found on the shores of the Aegean Sea.
In addition to mixing PENETRON ADMIX into the concrete during batching, PENEBAR SW waterstop strips were applied to permanently seal all resulting construction joints; both PENETRON topical crystalline material and PENECRETE MORTAR were used to complete the repair of cracks that may have appeared after the initial phase of construction.
