Duke Energy / Marshall Steam Station

Terrell/Catawba, NC, USA

Description

A coal-fired power generating facility, the Marshall Steam Station is Duke Energy’s second largest coal facility and generates enough electricity to power approximately 2 million homes. A new coal conveyor system was installed to help reduce corrosive runoff and groundwater contamination from stockpiled coal. This included a tunnel with an above grade concrete funnel to feed the coal to an underground precast concrete box.

Products Used

PENETRON ADMIX was used to construct the base slabs, funnel and precast tunnel sections (about 4,600 cubic yards). PENETRON’s ability to lower permeability and increase durability of the concrete in an aggressive groundwater environment was a key reason for its use in this project.
