Description
The Mississippi Department of Transportation (MS DOT) called for a complete renovation of the bridges on Interstate 22 to avoid any further damages that could make a costly bridge replacement necessary. Over the years, the concrete surfaces of both bridges had been severely damaged by water intrusion and the corresponding freeze-thaw cycles.
Products Used
The Mississippi DOT approved the application of PENETRON ADMIX-treated concrete (about 800 cubic yards / 610 m3) for the bridge deck overlay. Initially, the damaged concrete surface of both bridges (each two-lanes wide) was hydro-blasted to expose the steel in the top matt layer. The exposed structure was then covered with the treated concrete, ensuring a high degree of impermeability and optimal protection against any future intrusion of water or road chemicals.
