Oak Grove Wastewater Treatment Plant

Oak Grove, MO, USA

Description

The treatment tanks of the municipal wastewater treatment plant in Oak Grove, Missouri, were repaired and waterproofed to protect the facility from microbially-induced corrosion (MIC), which can quickly cause highly localized corrosion processes to the concrete. This process eats away the cement paste of the concrete matrix, rapidly exposing the embedded reinforcement steel of concrete sewage systems to water, oxygen, CO2, and chlorides – potentially ending in catastrophic corrosion-related failures in the concrete.

Products Used

Geiger Ready Mix added Penetron’s antimicrobial admixture to the concrete mix for all exposed concrete structures. Like the well-known PENETRON ADMIX, a crystalline concrete waterproofing admixture, the antimicrobial properties of the admixture are permanent and leach resistant; even repeated contact with bacteria does not lessen the effectiveness of the admixture.
