Description
The well-known Voortrekker Monument, an imposing 80-m (260-foot) tall brick and concrete building on a hill overlooking Pretoria, commemorates the migration of the Afrikaners, or Boers. These descendants of Dutch settlers fled inland from Cape Colony, located on the tip of Africa, to find new farmland and independence from British rule.
